Abstract:

Background: Human anatomy provides the structural foundation for understanding disease and clinical manifestations, whereas physiology explains the functional processes occurring within anatomical structures. Clinical symptoms represent the patient's experience of these disturbances and constitute an important component of history-taking and clinical reasoning. In homoeopathic practice, symptoms are further interpreted within the framework of individualization and Materia Medica. However, the relationship between anatomical localization and homoeopathic symptom interpretation has received comparatively limited systematic conceptual attention.

Objective: This narrative review aims to explore the potential relationship between human anatomy and homoeopathic Materia Medica and to propose an integrative approach in which anatomical localization provides clinical context for symptom characterization and subsequent individualized Materia Medica interpretation.

Methods: A focused narrative review of biomedical, clinical, anatomical, physiological, and homoeopathic literature was undertaken. Relevant literature concerning clinical anatomy, physiology, symptom assessment, clinical reasoning, homoeopathic Materia Medica, repertory-based symptom interpretation, individualization, and the evidence base of individualized homoeopathy was considered. Foundational homoeopathic texts were reviewed alongside contemporary biomedical and research literature. The review is conceptual and does not constitute a systematic review or clinical efficacy study.

Results: The literature supports the importance of anatomical localization and physiological correlation in clinical assessment. Homoeopathic literature traditionally emphasizes the characteristics, modalities, concomitants, and individualizing features of symptoms rather than diagnosis alone. An integrated framework can therefore be proposed: Anatomical Site → Physiological Context → Clinical Expression → Symptom Characterization → Materia Medica Correlation → Individualized Clinical Interpretation. Anatomical location should be regarded as a contextual component rather than a sufficient basis for remedy selection. Contemporary research on individualized homoeopathy demonstrates methodological heterogeneity and limitations in the evidence base, emphasizing the need for cautious interpretation.

Conclusion: Anatomy–Materia Medica correlation may provide a useful educational and conceptual bridge between basic medical sciences and individualized homoeopathic case analysis. The proposed approach may improve the organization of symptoms and encourage clinically contextualized interpretation. However, anatomical correlation should not be considered evidence of homoeopathic therapeutic efficacy or mechanism. Future research should investigate whether structured anatomical–symptom correlation improves case documentation, clinical reasoning, reproducibility, and quality of individualized prescribing.
