Abstract:

Visual arts have served as a profound medium for expressing and evoking human emotions throughout history. From prehistoric cave paintings to contemporary digital installations, artists have communicated joy, sorrow, fear, love, hope, and spiritual experiences through visual forms. Aesthetics, the branch of philosophy concerned with beauty, perception, and artistic experience, provides a framework for understanding how viewers emotionally respond to works of art. The emotional impact of visual arts depends upon multiple factors, including colour, composition, symbolism, cultural background, and personal experience. This paper explores the relationship between visual arts and human emotions through aesthetic perspectives by examining philosophical theories, psychological interpretations, Indian and Western traditions, and contemporary artistic practices. It argues that visual arts not only reflect emotional experiences but also foster empathy, self-awareness, cultural understanding, and psychological well-being.
