Abstract:
The global imperative to limit warming to 1.5°C has positioned corporations as critical actors in achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. This research paper examines the evolving role of corporations in climate action, analysing their commitments, strategies, challenges, and impact on global decarbonization efforts. Through an examination of current corporate practices, renewable energy adoption, carbon offsetting controversies, and emerging accountability frameworks, this paper demonstrates that while corporate net-zero pledges have proliferated, significant gaps remain between ambition and implementation. The analysis reveals that only 16% of the world's largest companies are currently on track to achieve their net-zero goals, highlighting the need for enhanced transparency, robust accountability mechanisms, and genuine emissions reductions rather than reliance on questionable carbon offsets.
