Abstract

The study investigates the role and performance of Tatvapada tradition in the social and cultural perspectives. The Tatvapada tradition occupies a significant place in Kannada literature as a unique form of philosophical and devotional expression. Through simple language and musical compositions, Tatvapadas communicate profound ideas concerning spirituality, ethics, social equality, and human values. Unlike classical literary works intended primarily for learned audiences, Tatvapadas reached ordinary people through oral tradition, making philosophy accessible across social classes. This paper examines the historical development, literary characteristics, social relevance, and cultural significance of the Tatvapada tradition in Kannada literature. It also analyses the contributions of prominent Tatvapadakaras and discusses the continuing relevance of Tatvapadas in preserving Karnataka’s cultural identity and promoting social harmony.
