Abstract

Background: Kankshi (Sphatika / Fitkari) is an important mineral drug described under Uparasa Varga in Rasashastra. It possesses Stambhana, Krimighna and Raktastambhaka properties and is widely used in various Ayurvedic formulations.

Aim: To carry out pharmaceutical purification (Shodhana) and analytical standardization of Kankshi according to classical and modern parameters.

Materials and Methods: Raw Kankshi was procured from authenticated sources. Shodhana was performed by dissolution, filtration and recrystallization method. Organoleptic, physicochemical and instrumental analyses (pH, LOD, Ash value, solubility tests, FTIR, XRD and ICP-OES) were conducted.

Results: Recrystallized Kankshi showed improved transparency and purity. Physicochemical parameters were within acceptable limits. Instrumental analysis confirmed the presence of potassium, aluminium and sulphate radicals.

Conclusion: Purified Kankshi meets Ayurvedic classical standards and modern analytical benchmarks, ensuring quality, safety and therapeutic efficacy.
