Abstract:

This paper explores the integration of astrology into academic discourse through a universal institutional framework that harmonizes traditional, classical, and scientific studies. Emphasizing the interdisciplinary relevance of astrology, the study highlights three core components of subjective well-being: Sanskrit classical literature and language, customary and traditional knowledge systems, and scientific disciplines such as astronomy, biology, chemistry, physics, and medical science. The traditional knowledge embedded in ancient astrological texts offers profound insights into time, destiny, and human behavior, while its intersection with modern science enables a rational, evidence-based exploration of astrological phenomena.
Although international journals occasionally publish research in this domain, the academic recognition of astrology remains limited without a dedicated global institutional structure. However, several institutions in India—such as the Indian Institute of Oriental Heritage, Vishva Jyothi Vidyapeeth (Kolkata), Sampurnanand Sanskrit University, and Presidency University—are actively working to establish astrology as a structured academic discipline. These efforts are further reinforced by the involvement of Governors from multiple Indian states, including Assam, Sikkim, Tripura, and West Bengal, who, along with Vice-Chancellors, judges, ministers, and scholars, have advocated for professional education in astrology.
This paper argues for the inclusion of astrology in the domain of chartered academic studies, supported by national policy and institutional collaboration. It presents a model of professional education that integrates traditional knowledge with scientific inquiry, thereby promoting astrology as a credible field of higher learning with global significance.
