Abstract:

Menstrual health management (MHM) is a critical yet often neglected aspect of adolescent well-being, significantly affecting school-going girls' education, self-esteem, and mental health. This study explores the awareness, challenges, and impact of menstruation on school attendance and academic performance among adolescent girls. A sample of 200 girls was surveyed using questionnaires and face-to-face interviews, revealing key barriers such as menstrual stigma, lack of awareness, inadequate access to sanitary products, and poor school infrastructure. Findings indicate that a significant number of girls experience physical discomfort, emotional distress, and academic setbacks due to menstruation-related challenges. This study emphasizes the need for comprehensive menstrual education, improved access to hygiene products, better sanitation facilities in schools, and policy interventions to create a more supportive environment for adolescent girls. Addressing these challenges will ensure gender-equitable education and enhance the overall well-being of school-going girls.
