Abstract:
In modern librarianship, success has grown to be defined by a core competency in digital literacy. This article highlights how changes in digital competencies are now playing a significant role in modern settings. This work will demonstrate how a librarian's competency in navigating and applying digital tools bolsters better information management, user interaction, and effective resource curation. It also recognizes the embedding of emerging technologies, such as AI and data analytics, into library practice, hence highlighting how digital literacy has empowered librarians to adapt to rapid changes in technology. The main object of the paper is to critically evaluate the role of digital literacy in the library profession, focusing on its impact on professional skills, library services, and the challenges it presents. It will also provide recommendations for future research and strategies to enhance digital literacy integration in professional development and library practices. This review synthesizes current research with professional experiences to outline the continuing need for ongoing digital skills development and to offer insights into best practices for fostering digital competency within the profession. It calls for a strategic intervention of training on digital literacy to assist librarians in coping with modern information environments and delivering quality service to various user communities.
