Abstract:

The rapid digitalisation of global trade has increased the importance of digital trade agreements (DTAs) in facilitating cross-border e-commerce. Traditional trade frameworks are often inadequate to regulate electronic transactions, cross- border data flows, and digital services. This research paper examines the role of digital trade agreements in promoting seamless international e-commerce by reducing regulatory barriers, enhancing transparency, and harmonising trade rules. The study analyses provisions of major DTAs and evaluates their impact on electronic transactions, data protection, customs procedures, digital payments, and SME participation. The findings suggest that effective DTAs, supported by strong domestic policies and robust digital infrastructure, can significantly improve cross-border e-commerce efficiency and contribute to inclusive economic growth.
