Abstract:
Spontaneous abortion or miscarriage remains one of the most common complications of early pregnancy. In Ayurvedic obstetrics (Prasuti Tantra), pregnancy loss is classified primarily into two categories based on the gestational age and the physical state of the fetus: Garbhasrava (occurring up to the fourth month) and Garbhapata (occurring in the fifth and sixth months). This detailed review explores the etiological factors (Nidana), pathogenesis (Samprapti), and preventive therapeutic strategies outlined in classical Ayurvedic literature. By correlating ancient concepts such as Beeja Dosha (genetic anomalies) and Garbhopaghatakara Bhavas (abortifacient factors) with modern medical science, this article highlights the contemporary relevance of Ayurvedic preventive care in managing threatened and recurrent pregnancy loss.
